South Whatcom Public Library at Sudden Valley

The South Lake Whatcom area has outgrown the limited services that a bookmobile can provide.  The community needs a full-service branch library to serve its 9,000 residents.

The Friends of the Sudden Valley Library was formed as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 2010 to help make a public library for South Whatcom a reality. The Friends have leased 6,500 sq. ft. of empty barn space from the Sudden Valley Community Association, and are raising $300,000 to complete a tenant improvement to create the South Whatcom Public Library at Sudden Valley.

The Whatcom County Library System welcomes the opportunity to establish a branch library in Sudden Valley that will serve all South Whatcom residents from the Geneva neighborhood to Sudden Valley to Glenhaven.  WCLS will provide all the materials, computers, furnishings and staff for a branch library.
